Rolls-Royce Group plc (LSE : RR.) is a global power systems and services company headquartered in the City of Westminster, London, United Kingdom. It is the world’s second-largest maker of aircraft engines (behind General Electric), and also has major businesses in the marine and energy sectors. Through its defence-related activities it is the world's 23rd largest defence contractor. It had an announced order book of £58.3 billion at 31 December 2009.
It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. As of August 2010, it was the 32nd largest company on the FTSE, with a market capitalisation of £10.24 billion.
Rolls-Royce Limited was founded in 1906 by Henry Royce and Charles Rolls, and produced its first aircraft engine in 1914.
